NHB KnifeWorks is Moving to Maplewood

Getting your hands on one of NHB KnifeWorks' coveted knives just got a little easier.

The artisan cutlery business – which has won fans among chefs both locally and nationally – is moving to a new, more customer-friendly storefront at 7328 Manchester Road in Maplewood, Missouri this summer.

NHB Knifeworks was founded in 2012 and quickly earned a reputation for its stainless, high-carbon and Damascus steel blades with artistic handles. Its original shop, which co-founder and craftsman Nate Bonner built and rehabbed himself, opened on Beck Avenue in Tower Grove in August 2013.

Bonner tells Feast that Maplewood is a great fit for NHB KnifeWorks; co-founder Melody Noel also cites higher foot traffic as one of the biggest reasons for the move.

"We've always known we'd outgrow that space at some point," Bonner says of the Tower Grove location. "There was nothing wrong with that location. I'm actually going to miss it a lot. It's just a shift in how we want to do business. We're thinking about our customers first."

He says the Maplewood shop will have set hours, rather than going by appointments, and that, along with his work area, about two-thirds of the store will be retail space. He also says they're discussing using part of the space for educational purposes, such as teaching basic knife maintenance skills.

Noel says the new neighborhood has been welcoming and the relocation process has been smooth so far. For right now, Bonner says he's juggling their booming business with the move. And, although it's stressful, he's not complaining.

"It's fun," he says sincerely. "I like to have a million things going on."

NHB is planning a grand opening for the new location in conjunction with the Let Them Eat Art festival on July 8.
